Lonley in colour. David Bagalishvili

Moje płótna mówią o wyobcowaniu i emigracji.

Używam kontrastów, by wyrazić emocje, wprowadzić niepokój. Ważny jest dla mnie czerwony, kolor wina i krwi, symbolizujący jednocześnie radość życia i jej przeciwieństwo. Poszukiwanie równowagi między nimi to istota ludzkiego życia. Pracuję wolno, tradycyjnie. Zdrapuję i ponownie nakładam warstwy farby, szukając faktury i głębi, która odda to, co niewypowiedziane.

I’m stuck in time. I am suspended - or perhaps even trapped - in a moment that refuses to pass. That’s how I feel when I sit down at the easel. My alienation has two sources: emigration and time that flows without me. When I am far away, the homeland I left changes; that one is gone, and the new one is no longer mine. That is why I paint - in my paintings I am at home. If I stop, my world will disappear.

My works are in vivid colors, and yet the figures in them remain isolated. They emerge from a shimmering abyss reminiscent of a stained-glass window or a mosaic. Their silhouettes slowly blend into the background, becoming one with the world in which they remain trapped. My canvases speak of alienation and emigration. Of the experience of being between worlds - Georgia, which I carry within me; Ukraine, which has become my home; Poland, which I have been discovering and learning for several years.

Color is my language. I use contrasts to express emotions, to introduce unease. Red is important to me - the color of wine and blood - symbolizing both the joy of life and its opposite. The search for balance between them is the essence of human life. I work slowly, traditionally. I scrape and reapply layers of paint, seeking texture and depth that will convey what is unspoken.
